You don't have to become a new you during this PANDEMIC

No, you don't have to become a new person, pursue your wildest dreams, and be productive every single second of the day during this quarantine period. You don't have to post it on the internet to self validate so that people think you're doing something. However, you can be conscious of using your time wisely. If there is one thing I will never forget is when I first heard the phrase, "Money comes and goes. Your time won't." That's something that I will carry with me for the rest of my days. It's actually those same words that drove me to quit my 9-5 life and start living. That's a story for another day though!

We're about two months into this "quarantine" life and I will say, it's creeping up on me. Being home all the time and working from home is something I was already used to and it's why I wasn't worried about the lockdown we were about to get in Florida. However, being told what to do is not my thing. I can describe my time during all this as highs and lows. Some days I feel like I can take on any challenge, create endless content, learn a new skill, respond to all my texts in a timely manner, be a better listener and so many other things in my to-do list. Yet, some days, most days, it's hard to get out of bed, talk to friends, want to look at myself in the mirror, and just lay in bed asking wtf am I doing with my life and time. Told ya, highs and lows, no in-betweens. Luckily, I have a strong support system and if I didn't I still have myself.

It's so easy to fall into the trap of wanting to do all the things you see people do on Instagram. I have been taking little breaks from social media where I just tackle things on my list little by little. It's hard not to feel like shit when you see everyone on social media being "great". You can take what you choose to intake from the internet as motivation or energy draining. However, time is something we cannot get back and when this is all over, don't be that guy wishing you had some things differently. Take this time as a self-reflective and a gift if you will. Let's face it, being stuck at home just means it's just you and your thoughts all day long and that's probably a recipe for disaster if you don't know how to work through your thoughts. Do something that your future self will thank you for. Whether it's just taking it easy or learning something new or simply mastering your current craft. So here are a few things that you can do to make your time at home more enjoyable.

No motivation to get up? Try:

  • Going to bed a little earlier, set a routine!
  • Act as if you have somewhere to report to, get up, shower, brush your teeth, get ready, and have some yummy breakfast!
  • As you lay in bed dreading getting up, shift your focus and try to name a few things you're grateful for
  • Look through your to-do list. No list is right, wrong, too long, or too short. If emptying out your trunk is the only thing you have to do today, cool, clean that trunk with your whole chest!
Not working right now? Try:
  • Finding new ways to make money from home
  • YouTube "University" to learn a new skill! I can't stress enough how many things you can learn on youtube
  • Harvard is currently offering few FREE online courses you might want to check out, here!
  • Take some time for yourself and catch up on your favorite shows or start a new one
  • Binge-watch all Harry Potter films (shameless plug, I'm a Hufflepuff!)
  • Catch up on your sleep, if needed
  • Go for a nice SOCIALLY DISTANCED walk
  • Give yourself a nice at-home mani/pedi (I need one so bad right now!)
  • Organize your space (I feel like I cannot think when my space is messy it truly affects me)
  • Catch up with friends or loved ones via text, phone or video call
  • Take on at-home workouts
  • Do nothing, sometimes. It's ok, I PROMISE!
With that being said, stay strong my friends! I am always up for talking and you guys can definitely reach out to me on social media or email! I feel that now more than ever people should stick together and lend a hand wherever you can!
